To Big Sur With Love Ride
Sunday 5/22/05

Road Rider - Gizdich Ranch - Big Sur Coastline - Nepenthe - Carmel Valley
--------Ride Report--------

I can hear Petula Clark singing the theme song to the James Bond movie "To Sir with Love" right now. This ride has some of California's best scenery. Coastal Redwood forests, fertile farmlands, picturesque tourist towns, and the rugged Pacific coastline.

To Big Sur With Love Ride

*******************************

We'll start out at Road Rider in San Jose. This is a major motorcycle supplies outlet in the SJ area. Just Breakfast is across the street if you want to start the day with a big breakfast. Be sure to get there early if you want to eat, as they are busy on the weekends.  We should leave Road Riders at 09:30.

We'll head south on Monterey Road, cutting over to Uvas Road, then south up over Hecker Pass. Down the west side and a stop at Gizdick Ranch for some pie. We should arrive here at about 10:30 and leave by 11:00. This can serve as an alternate meeting place. The Santa Cruz brethren might choose to meet us here.

Live to ride, ride to eat

From here we head south on Hwy 1. We should top off in Seaside, then proceed till we reach Nepenthe. This is a restaurant and gift shop perched high on the Pacific Coast. On a clear day the view is awesome. We'll eat lunch here, then head back through Big Sur to Carmel by the Sea. An option, at this point, is to head east up Carmel Valley. This is a great back road over the Santa Lucia Mountains, through Arroyo Seca and into the Salinas Valley at Greenfield. Here we pick up Hwy 101 for the slog north.
