Santa Cruz Mountains Big Trees Ride
(and barbecue)
7/31/05

SC Mountain Ride Route large

The ride begins 09:30 at the Overlook at the junction of 92 and Skyline Blvd. From here we head south to Sky Londa. We turn right on 84 and go to La Honda, where we turn left onto Pescadero Road. This takes us to Alpine Road which will return us to Skyline Blvd. We make a right onto Hwy 9 and proceed to Big Basin Redwoods State Park, via 236, where we will stop for a snack break. Everyone should consider gassing-up in Boulder Creek.  Leaving town on Bear Creek Rd, we proceed along 35 to Summit Rd, eventually arriving in Corralitos via Highland Way and Eureka Canyon Rd. Any last minute provisions can be picked up here before the final climb to the picnic area in Mt. Madonna Park.

This is a deceptively long ride, so I cut the route back to about 102 miles in length. It will  take about 4+  hours in the saddle. I warned you, this ride ain't for no sissys!

start point

We'll meet at the Overlook at the junction of 92 and Skyline Blvd.
09:30

My brother Gary will be Ride Leader this time and I will be pulling the Chuck Wagon, as Tail Gunner. I'll provide the food and supplies for the barbecue. I'm planning on ribs, assorted sausages, assorted salads, assorted canned drinks, and other goodies. If anyone has special dietary needs, they will have to provide them. We can pick up any last minute items at the Corralitos Market and Sausage Co. We will use a first-come-first-first-served picnic area in Mt. Madonna Park. This is a great setting for a barbecue meal.
