Sacramento River
Delta Blues Ride
9/11/05
Rio Vista - Ferry
Boat rides - Freeport - Locke - Isleton
-----Ride Report-----
The San Joaquin Delta
is a vast area of converging rivers, deep water canals, man-made
islands, and sloughs. One small segment is the Sacramento River
system. The river has been lined with levees so that the surrounding
land could be used for crop production and to control flooding. Most
levees are topped with nice winding roads, from which you can view the
surrounding farm lands and the plentiful river activity. The small
towns that survive along the river all have interesting and colorful
pasts. This ride starts in Rio Vista and makes a loop to Freeport then,
back to our starting point. This includes two river crossings using
small Ferry Boats and numerous Draw Bridge crossings. This is a popular
destination for Central Valley riders.
