Saddle Sore 1000
I am not into long distance endurance runs. I would rather cruse, sightsee, and enjoy the outdoors. Sometimes, a person just wants to know the limits of themselves and their equipment. I decided to see if my Silver Wing and I could complete a Saddle Sore 1000 run. It turns out that a route from my home in Mountain View, CA to Eugene, OR and back would qualify. I logged 1136 miles round trip.
I left at 02:15 on 6/24/03 and returned home at 22:18 the same day. My brother Gary, a retired Peace Officer, witnessed my odometer readings. 20 hours with only a few short rest stops for food and gas. The bike worked like a champ! It ran at freeway speeds (65 -75 mph) all day without a whimper. At these speeds I only got 36 mpg, but fuel economy was not my goal. At the end of the day I was tired and a little sore, but could have ridden another 500 miles the next day.
The Silver Wing is an amazing scooter. Performance and comfort at an affordable price.
Here is a map of my route.
