Trailer hitch

I've wanted to use my bikes for camping, for sometime. I bought  a cargo trailer for this purpose. Now I needed a trailer hitch for my Volusia. There are a few commercially available ones, but they are expensive and a hassle to get. A member of the VOL group came up with this style of hitch, so I made one for my bike.

I attached it to the hard-bag brackets. That way I can easily remove it and still use the hard-bags.

The wire harness taps in at the rear light assembly. I applied a piece of 3M protective film, so that the harness won't scratch the paint.

I used 1/4" x 12" x 12" steel plate and 3/8" x 2" steel flat-bar. Material cost was about $50.00 and it took about 6 hours of labor.

This hitch is rock solid. It has worked out very well!
