2-way Radio Communication

The solitude of solo riding is one of the great pleasures I derive from motorcycling. Add another rider and things change. It can be difficult, if not impossible, to get the attention of other riders while cruising along. In a Group Ride, being able to communicate between the Leader and Tail-gunner, is extremely important. The cohesiveness and safety of the group can depend on it. My brother and I purchased Chatterbox® FRS radios a few years ago and had limited success with them. They were woefully underpowered for anything except side-by-side communication at a stoplight. A riding buddy suggested we try Motocomm® communication units. They are a headset, PTT button, and cabling set-up that plugs into any number of different 2-way radios. These have worked out quite well for us. This is what we now use.

We bought our units as a package deal from

Headset

Motocomm comm unit

This is the set-up for a 3/4 helmet. It uses a boom-mic. If you already own a 2-way radio that you like, this is all that you need to buy. We bought  a package deal that included 2 radios and 2 Motocomm Headset units.

Combo deal

We got the 740-752 NiMH units and have been happy with them.

Underarm radio pouch

I use an underarm pouch to hold my radio. I could put it in a coat pocket, but this way it works with whatever I'm wearing.
My brother puts his in a windscreen pouch.
