My
first two ukuleles were patterned after the "baby guitar" body style.
This is what most people think of when they hear ukulele. This shape
makes a lot of sense for a large instrument , but not so much for
a smaller one. The waist facilitates reaching over and playing the
strings. A waist on a uke is just that, a waste of potential
interior space. I wanted to build something that would maximize the
sound production in a small space. I quickly drew this design out and
was on my way to building the first prototype. I tried a number of new
ideas on that one. Most worked out very well, a few didn't. I decided
to build more to see if I could produce high quality, great
sounding instruments. I think I did quite well with these.
